The professionally fitted devices generalyl incorporate na adjustment mechanism so that jaw advancement can eb easily increased or decreased after fitting. Devices such as nose clips can dilate the nostrils, and other devices can alter jaw mechanics to keep the jaw in an optimum position. Sepcially made dental appliances scuh as a mandibualr advancement splint, which advance the lower jaw slightly, and thereby pulsl the tongue forward, are a preferred mode of treatment for social snoring. They generally function excatly the same as the professoinally fitted devices, with the chife disadvantage being the difficulty in setting up the correct jaw position.
